I have been working on behalf of one controlling interest my entire adult life. That spans some years, stretching back into the 1900's as my son unabashedly states among large groups. I am confused by the participatory structure of "slavery" in all their forms; from labor to sex, wage to intellectual, and within data-structure relationships of every type under the sun. Slavery, whether by force against the Individual by some entity with operational weight, or self-induced by free will through personal choice or ignorance, is really destructive for Humanity, and its Individual constituents.
Try telling that to the slave owner! Heck, try telling that to a W2/W4 wage-slave that self-induces this relationship structure into the world by ignorance and willful force. Slavery of your daily operational potential for leveraged purposes... this is both a black & white issue for ease of understanding by all, and a plausibly deniable outcome with soft edges, emotional responses, families that need to be fed, children that need to be educated... and you get to decide how you participate. In America, a Civil War was fought over the structure of labor that civil Society uses to organize GDP outcomes...and no matter your take on history, one glaring reality stands out from this historical procession: owners were the winners on both sides of the bloody conflict. In America's civil Society, enslavement was transcended by employment, and owners were the winners on both sides of the exchange.
From the vantage point of the future, this really matters, because work and labor are changing rapidly, and the contractual structure you have applied to your well-being, no matter what it may be, has literal meaning in terms of the nature of human leverage. Governments love W2/W4 labor structures, or employees, for a very simple reason.. the taxable revenue is deducted 1st from an employee pay check, and the worker receives that which is left. This stands in stark contrast to an owner, who receives full revenue, depreciates and expenses burdens of operation, and then pays the Gov a percentage of whatever is left at the end. Power to the system versus power to the person organized as an owner. Literacy is understanding accurately, and in a world with artificial labor structures prepared to compete full force with human labor, one must ask oneself: what kind of leverage are you using?

System or Human Origin?
Good people, working within organizations like the United Nations, have been exclaiming for a number of years that all people, and especially children, have a "Right" to a Nationality and identity, and without such "Rights", are at risk of exploitation and denial of basic human freedoms.
But there is a fundamental question that is omitted from almost all of these discussions; what is the origin of Human Rights? The suggestion that identity and Nationality is a Universal Right of all people begs the question... where and when do these artifacts of participation among civil Societies originate for the integrity of the Individual, the baseline constituents of Humanity?
I suggest, and stand firmly behind the position that, if you are required to register into a database to acquire recognition of "Human Rights", you in fact do not possess any "Human Rights", and instead have been provisioned system Rights. The origin of human authority must always be protected, for it is the most personal substance from which all civil Societies derive their sustained existence. In the absence of systemic recognition of the accurate origin of Human Rights, methods have been instituted that present bandages, not solutions to this growing issue.
The capability to provision system Rights in lieu of functional Human Rights is a giant error in the construct of civil Society. The absence of functional meaning in the procession of administering Human Rights from every system on the planet in the year 2017 is the most literal description of the scale of this problem. In America alone, "We the People" have allowed the governing structure of our Society which derives its integrity to govern of, by and for the people to be co-opted by systemic methods that strip Human Rights from the equation by default, and replace self-Sovereign human authority with a form of provisioned systemic authority that will never add up well enough.
In truth, the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is the only Nation on Earth that could not exist without a direct demonstration of self-Sovereign authority, as documented for history by the famous signatory of John Hancock, itself an artifact without granted Rights to self-Declare Independence from the National Sovereign system and Constitute a more perfect union among people with nothing more than the self-represented force of their own personal Sovereign authority.

I do not care who you think you are... I know you exist as an Individual, among others just like you. This fact is the basis of our equality. No matter who you are, no better... no worse... by default, GUARANTEED under Constitutional Authority. Any change necessary will be made to accord you, no matter who you are, with all the structural Rights of citizenship among empowered equals by default condition.
In America, the blood of our citizens is Individually Represented. At any point in the course of existence on this planet, if a person or constituency wants to harm or adversely affect the well-being of Individual Freedom, justice and the rule of Constitutional Law under the authority of "We the People" who duly organize a Government of, by and for the Individual people of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is designed to stand guard. That is a promise backed by a series of basic Rights that have been Instituted so that this great American experiment shall NEVER perish from the Earth.
Individual Representation is our great quest, hard won, easily squandered. Engineers the world over are racing to give this experience to people. Scientists, physicists, mathematicians, artists, entrepreneurs and administrators are all working personally to enable this outcome. It is in the best interest of every Society on Earth to provision functional authority to the edges, to the homes, to the pockets, to the thumbs of Humanity. This will be expressed through time in infinite complexity, and our collective structure should demonstrate the ability to reward innovators while enabling innovation and derivative works. Open innovation, proprietary innovation, collaborative innovation, social innovation, civic innovation, energy innovation, health innovation, education innovation, administrative innovation in every field of endeavor the minds of Humanity may conceive in time.
You can not allow slavery to occupy your future.
Contracts must evolve. Self-possession and personal ownership of working relationships with others must come to be understood by all people as a baseline structural requirement of "Equality" itself. Making a slave of yourself by contract law must be self-ridiculed among Society's participants. It is sub-optimal, and truly disparaging when viewed from the future. In the future you must own yourself... this is the starting point of all socio-economic existence. The contracts you sign, the Terms of service you Agree to, these are legally binding notices of your relationship to practices of enslaving human dignity, value and potential.
It is that simple, and yet there are millions of people who for no great reason will defend the structural choices they make in support of de-leveraging their own freedom and free will. At birth, people will willingly register their defenseless babies within databases structured as legal Trusts in order to contrive citizenship Rights, and in so doing, give the value of their lives over to a system that will enslave participation and loot the value of root participation as the baseline of free market activity. Parents will return home to mail in their new babies name from Gerber Life Insurance, and a data slave is born.
Go to Kindergarten at age 5, join Facebook at age 13... structure yields results. Data-enslavement ensures that as parents, let alone as Individual people-in-development (ie, kids), you will have very little say about the sprawl of data connected to your child's life, and corporations and Institutions will constantly seek to loot the value of your data participation for a private profit. Facebook will scan your photos and track your movements across the connected web of devices, servers and sensors, and then sell the value of "knowing you" to data-slave traders and on a stock market for a tremendous private gain. Your takeaway... free use of a vanity social network. Congratulations!
The world was not ready for digital technology. Maybe our world never is ready for innovation socially? Regardless, this time we are playing for all the marbles. Artificial intelligence is walking the Earth, and in the absence of direct Human Sovereign authority expressive by Individuals, these automated entities with advanced bureaucratic capabilities packaged as corporations with more legal empowerment than Individual Human beings possess by default are set to dominate your world.
Maybe it is inevitable? Maybe AI is our savior? Maybe we should not be concerned, and should just comply and keep registering away our integrity as Individuals so that we may be served by our Institutional overlords? Maybe... or maybe not. Maybe there is a simple solution. Maybe, our systems should be changed so as to respect by default the Sovereign Human authority that exists prior to identity registration in every case, in every civil Society.
Its really quite simple; it is not a civil Society if the choice to participate is not literal. If Human Rights do not pre-exist system-provisioned Rights, human beings have a problem. Structure yields results, and results have meaning.
