For the same reason that customers will never produce their own demand-driven market construct, and can only be aggregated for the production of leverage that is distributed to them by some service or system...
W2 workers represent a self-degrading structure of value production in this world, highly popular for the ease of benefit acquisition, but detrimental to concepts like "Freedom", "Self Possession", "Personal Sovereignty" and counteractive of efforts to produce change along paths of inquiry where Human health, education and environmental protection are priorities.
Why? This is such a stark line in the sand...surely there must be a way for a W2 worker, a customer of work, to play an effective role in the development of the economy. Obviously, we see the growth of market economies around the world having happened during the tenure of the Corporation and it's W2 workers. Where is the downside? Why so glum, chum?
A strategic question for your consideration:
How is it that a National/Global system of labor and production progressed from an archetypal model where "Owners" practicing "Enslavement" were eclipsed by "Owners" practicing "Employment"... and "Owners" were the undisputed winners on both side of the historical process...also called war in some cases?
The flow of leverage.
We exist presently within a socio-economic construct that practices a model of property rights which begins with the unquestioned assumption that the system owns each of us as Human participants, structures each of us by default registration as debt under management, and produces the machinery of Rights protections provisioned upon citizen identifiers who then possess the ability to "own" the world as property, and to harvest its raw materials via any means of production deemed worthy, which stands against public scrutiny in time. That being influenced by political leverage increasingly moved by monetary influence.
Conversely, the origin story of the youngest Nation and most powerful super-power on our planet, America, is defined by a "John Hancock" experience. This experience shines a light on the inherent structure of Sovereignty itself, its origin of integrity, and the means by which old structures are overcome and new structures are established. Individual lives, joined together in force of will and self-possession of consciousness, are always the last line of defense, and first point of contact, for the integrity of an Institutional form of governance on this planet.
While we are inclined to patiently endure poor structural treatments and outcomes of systemic tyranny to a great degree, at some point the decision to change the structure of Human Rights and participatory outcomes of practicing those Rights, falls upon each of us Individually... defined with blood integrity when necessary.
W2 workers represent a re-structuring of Human beings into labor property with operational integrity that does not inherently align with Human interest judged by any metric of consequence in Societal terms. Instead, employees are driven by the self-protection concerns of workers seeking to extend and guard the benefits of their employment and relationship with the source of their sustenance, which may or may not be in the best interests of any entity beyond the Corporation they work for, and themselves.
It is reminiscent of the line from the movie 'The Matrix'... adapted for the cause... "You think that is a Human you are dealing with...?". W2 workers are not structurally Human, anymore than Slaves on a plantation were treated with Humanity in mind. The difference is that people do it to themselves now.
It is a harsh message, but for every success story that a W2 can tell, there is a child labor story in tow. For every Unionized pension plan, there is a person tossed out with nothing to show for the labor they have given to a Corporation as property under management.
Our Government financed, public education system in America is defined by the W2 labor model. In fact, it is more than plausible to consider the "education system" as an "employment system" more so than any educational model it may accomplish in tow. W2 workers teaching to W2 skills for W2 goals define the methods and structural outcomes of the system. In the year 2015, the major battle being supported by leading edge outliers is for the inclusion of two types of thinking skills that are not present within this W2 model of education... entrepreneurial thinking, and computational thinking.
We are seeing a shift on this planet... it can be confusing to understand... but it is about the relationships that exist between people and the relationships that people have with the Institutions that seek to manage them as assets. Humans, managed as debt liabilities, defines what Governments and Societies are, up to this point in history. People are seeking more power that is personally managed, to be organized as assets under their own care and personal flow of leverage. And the dichotomy is running into a battle that is as simple as the words we choose to represent the kinds of choices standing in front of each of us. Are you a "customer" of Rights, or are you an "owner" of Rights?
The Internet is the tool of greatest consequence in this regard. The flow of leverage it enables challenges people and Institutions to negotiate the operating models they use to enforce the type of power they practice. W2 workers are the enemy of Human progress in this regard. The priorities they bring to the equation have the two-faced role of making people believe they emanate from Human concerns, when in reality they emanate from Institutional models of leverage.
Personal Sovereignty over the data Rights you possess, over your speculative labor value amidst increasingly automated AI capabilities that Institutions will be pursuing with great voracity, over the type of education you receive and make possible for your children, over the environmental choices we find available and the health care options we make possible for our species... all affected by the structure of Human participation in the socio-economic system.
The model must flip to endure in healthy terms.
It is not Humans that should be owned by Institutions, structured as debt liabilities at identity formation, organized to own and possess the world as an asset to be depleted at zero cost for incremental gain...
It is Individual Humans that should own themselves, managing the Institutional integrity of their own participation in Society through the process of contriving their primary key as a personally possessed asset, capable of making the world what they wish in harmony with the community they exist in relationship with locally and globally. Nothing about existing is free... depleting our world has a real cost, whether modern GDP measures it or not.
Our participatory and developmental model is in error, and we have the tools to fix it.
The question is, do we possess the Individual will?
W2's are a poison pill in this regard.
The time has come, as you wrote, and AI is an operational choice. Do people understand what is happening? Do people see the systems acting upon them by them? Another Great administrative dichotomy with warships is forming. Systems keep getting more aggressive, more restrictive, more controlling, and all this data being donated!!! WOW!!! Almost seems humans would prefer to feed themselves to the alien invasion than protect themselves. What kind of species is this, really? Time will tell.. all we need is a computationally accurate Constitution that is operationally controlled by its Sovereigns directly, xpressd in every transaction modal. The dependencies must flip!
